The energy industry is going through a renaissance and the Bay Area is a hotbed for renewables and innovation in the energy sector. With solar alone growing at 20% the rate of the overall economy, there is value in shedding light on the many career opportunities in this emerging field.

On April 24th, in partnership with YPE Bay Area, the University of San Francisco's Net Impact Club hosted a Careers in Energy Showcase. The event was wildly successful and hosted over 120 graduate students, Net Impact chapter members, and energy professionals.

The Careers in Energy Showcase was made possible with participation from SunEdison, Opower, PG&E, Genability, Luminalt, Sunrun, NRG Energy, C3 Energy, and CPUC. In addition, the USF Graduate Student Association generously helped sponsor the event.

As a University Alumni and CEO of local solar company, Luminalt, Jeanine Cotter shared her insights into the solar industry and the future of energy. Additionally, in order to connect career-seekers with opportunities and pathways available, a panel shared their professional experiences with the audience. Moderated by Net Impact advisor, Professor Jennifer Walske, the event hosted the following engaging and informative speakers: Hannah Lee (Strategy Associate, C3 Energy), Martin Baker (Sr. Software Engineer, Genability), Pete Shoemaker (Renewables Program Coordinator, PG&E), and Michael Lee (Business Development, SunEdison).

The Careers in Energy Showcase provided an opportunity for all graduate students of the University of San Francisco to network with some of the Bay Area’s top energy leading companies and professionals. It was a thrill to see the many connections made and doors opened for students in the energy sector. The Net Impact club looks forward to hosting another impactful career showcase next year!
